They do EVERYTHING together. They like the same things, and they always have fun!

So imagine Sophia’s surprise when Camila starts spending more time with Christabel, and it’s interfering with Sophia and Camila’s time together. All of this change is hard, and Sophia finds herself wondering why. Does this mean Sophia did something wrong? Does it mean Camila likes Christabel better? Sophia finds herself thinking… I Lost My BFF.

Through honest conversations and open-mindedness, Sophia, Camila, Christabel and Asha soon learn that it’s okay for friends to have other good friends, and not everyone needs to like to do the same things all of the time. If they are kind and respectful toward one another, their friendships can grow and change.

My review- 4 out of 5 stars

I think we all have had that one BFF who suddenly stopped hanging out with us. This book discusses the emotions a girl feels when her best friend forever simply starts hanging out with an another friend. It also provides a solution and a new approach towards friendship.

Sophia is sad because Camila, her BFF, is being distant with her. She's got a new friend and is hanging out with her often. Sophia finds herself alone, rejected and jealous. She does want to lose her BFF. She tries joining Camila and her new friend but they don't seem interested in her. This continues until Sophia can't take it anymore. She talks to her mom who advices her to communicate and express how she feels. But Camila is unaffected by knowing how Sophia is feeling. That makes her frustrated. Her mom further advices her to befriend other girls in her school. Mom explains her that friendship can't be forced, if Camila wants to have two BFF's she can. That Sophia should accept that while growing up we make many friends and not all stay. Amazing story with lovely illustrations and a wonderful message! Thank you Netgalley so much for the copy!
HDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05625991136419900762noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-824961927555711303.post-55403516209158025712020-11-25T19:06:00.003+05:302020-11-25T19:06:40.754+05:30Rissy No Kissies
Rissy No Kissies

by Katey Howes,

illus. Jess Engle

Lerner Publishing Group

Carolrhoda Books ®

Description

A lovebird who doesn't like kisses? A note at the end provides further information for kids, parents, and educators about body autonomy, consent, and different ways to show affection.

My Review - 5 out of 5 stars

Childhood is not all happiness, it is also about knowing yourself and learning to say 'No' to what you don't like. Rissy is a small little lovebird who does not like getting kisses from anyone. While everyone finds her mean or rude or sick and doubts is she even a lovebird... Her mother agrees that only Rissy decides what she likes or dislikes. It's her body so she has the right to say "No".

Most of the times, kids are taken for granted that they love hugs and kisses, but just as adults they should be asked for permission before touching them. People should respect if a child disagrees to hug or kiss.

The book is easy to understand and conveys the message very clearly. This book is an hilarious adventure. Timmy is nervous as he's going for the hockey tests.
His little fart, his best friend, tries to cheer him up.
At the hockey arena, Timmy is shocked to find the little fart who had followed him.
Timmy is really angry and he does not want to be the stinky kid.
However what the fart does, turns out to be funny!
With all the laughter, Timmy feels relieved and finally passes his test.
A book all kids would enjoy! The fact that a fart is characterized, would surely interest young readers and they'd easily connect with the story!
A little boy is travelling to Diomedes with Teragloona, to trade bearskins for dearskins.
In the sea, the boy spots a beach, he thinks is made of black sand.
To his shock, it tunrs out that it isn't a beach but millions of birds who are known as sea parrots.

That's when Teragloona tells him the story of Fish-Boy.
Fish- Boy is lonely and when he meets a fisherman, he requests him to be his father. The fisherman agrees after Fishboy helps him catch fishes easily.
Soon they're famous and get an invitation from a chief of another village.
But when they pay visit, they are disappointed by the way the people treat them.
The fishboy saves himself, his father and the crew through magic. But those who mistreated them where turned to birds forever.
This a great story for any kid, who likes the oceans, seas, fishes, mermaids, mermen and the deep.
The tale also explains how we should treat our guests with respect and kindness.
A must read!
How he is super happy to scare people!
How he loves having toad soup or mosquitoes or worm cake as dinner.
How at his sight, everyone screams. How he enjoys staying in the lake but his tail feels sore.
How he loves hugs from his mom and likes to hear about fairies.
Cool, Naughty and Funny!
Thank you Netgalley for the copy!

Little Molly is not able to sleep. Her mom comes up with an idea to help her.
What I liked about the book is, instead of "Let me tell you a story", her mother encourages her to use her own imagination and create her own story.

She gives her characters she can play and imagine and eventually fall asleep.
But every time Molly finds it unsuitable, no problem though her mom has more characters.

This book is definitely sweet and cute. It encourages the kid to run their own imaginations and build their own stories.
In a way, kids could remember what they've learned so far and use them in a story.

A very enjoyable and must read!
Scary, Intriguing, Unique!
The first few chapters introduced so many characters, I thought I wouldn't be able to keep up with them. But as the story progressed, the characters felt real and easier to understand.
The narration is distinctive and it just makes the reading experience a great one.
No typical horror movie characters, the thing that impressed me. The story is about a carnival, as the name suggests, where nothing is what it seems.
Everyone is interested in the house of horrors but it takes them to a different world. Scary fun!
If you're looking for a great read for this Halloween, this book has got it all.
Aliens, witches, wolves, serial killers and every horror character you can think of.
Thank you Netgalley for the free copy in exchange of an honest review.

About the book- The Halloween carnival seemed like the perfect way to spend a Friday night, but when a group of teenagers find themselves trapped in the haunted mansion, they learn the awful truth about the carnival, and the demons that run it.
Now they’re trapped, fighting their way through a maze of torturous attractions where vampires, werewolves, aliens, and other monsters come to life, eager for human blood. As the body count rises, friendships are made and lost, and unlikely heroes emerge.
The final showdown takes place in Hell, where the ultimate battle between good and evil will determine their fate.
The Carnival of Fear - the price of admission is your soul!

Kat Preston doesn’t believe in ghosts. Not because she’s never seen one, but because she saw one too many. Refusing to believe is the only way to protect herself from the ghost that tried to steal her life. Kat’s disbelief keeps her safe until her junior year at McTernan Academy, when a research project for an eccentric teacher takes her to a tiny, private island off the coast of Connecticut.
The site of a grisly mystery, the Isle of Acacia is no place for a girl who ignores ghosts, but the ghosts leave Kat little choice. Accompanied by her research partner, Evan Kingsley, she investigates the disappearance of Cassie Mallory and Sebastian Radcliffe on their wedding night in 1886. Evan’s scientific approach to everything leaves Kat on her own to confront a host of unbelievables: ancestral curses, powerful spells, and her strange connection to the ghosts that haunt Castle Creighton.
But that’s all before Kat’s yanked through a magic portal and Evan follows her. When the two of them awaken 129 years in the past with their souls trapped inside the bodies of two wedding guests, everything changes. Together, Kat and Evan race to stop the wedding-night murders and find a way back to their own time—and their own bodies—before their souls slip away forever.

THE GIRL WHO IGNORED GHOSTS is a fast-paced YA time-travel murder mystery novel that combines time-traveling, paranormal, and gothic mystery genres to weave a tale full of ancestral curses, powerful spells, strange connections, and inherited surprises. The novel is sure to delight fans of Paige McKenzie's The Haunting of Sunshine Girl series and Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series.

The narration creates the atmosphere for a gripping horror but it also tests your patience at the same time.
This is more like that horror movie, where you ask "when will the ghost come?" Written in a slow style and predictable at times but still interesting.
Not very scary but still good to cause you to have nightmares.
A very unique and stand out horror collection.
Thank you Netgalley!

About- A collection of spooky ghost stories and dark tales based on the classic style of horror/supernatural writing, The Angry Ghost and Other Stories introduces a return to classic form with a fresh perspective. A man journeying to Cornwall seeking a Ghost - and flowers, an obnoxious bully being welcomed to spend the evening at an old museum, and an author of fictional horror unable to take his friend seriously when he’s told of the Werewolf roaming around his village are just three of a collection that will have you reading with every light on.

The stories have a chilling undertone, a sense of unease without outright horror which is matched by its cast of characters that run the gamut from the ordinary to the undead. These characters share the same fate, a confrontation with something unearthly and should not exist - that is, except in a world where creatures of darkness can still, occasionally, break through. The book also features a mix of voices, from first person to third, and from past to present tense which keeps the pace fast, exciting and varied. With descriptive language, the tales bring with them an atmosphere not easily shrugged off.

“Ultimately, the storyteller weaves his tale of dark possibilities to coax out and into the light creatures that may occasionally intrude upon the living, but never encroach upon or breach the shield of safety of the listener. For the listener is always safe from ghosts…almost always.”

W to M of self publishing is a gem of a book. Its simple, quick and very useful. The author begins with sharing his personal experiences and advice for other authors.
A great book for newbies or for that matter, every writer. The author himself has explored a wide ways of publishing and writing, which at some point every writer has to go through.
But if you read the book, you'll find out what really works and what does not. Better, than to try yourself and learn the hard way.
Contradictory to most of the books in this genre, the narration is very simple and easy to understand. You won't require to re-read again and again. It's that easy to read.
Everyone experiences the good and the bad, but not many decide to share it with others so that they benefit from it. Kudos to the Author!
If reaching Amazon's Best-seller's list is your aim, this book is for you.

About the book:

"W to M of Self-publishing - Why do Indie Authors Fail? is a beginner's guide to learn everything about What, Why, How, and Where of writing, editing, formatting, publishing, and marketing of books.

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Special question- How did you come up with idea of “W to M OF Self Publishing”? What inspired you to write about the challenges of a self published author?

<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Well, there were a lot of things that resulted in this book. Its basically about the observations I made during these few years while I was writing books.
So a couple of years back when I started to write books, I noticed some of my friends had really great writing skills. Some of them also wanted to publish their works but got discouraged due to the difficulties they faced in their journey. Also, as an active member of many Facebook and Goodreads groups, I observed a lot of indie authors give up their dreams due to marketing issues.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
Added to that I saw a lot of misconceptions amongst people regarding the book writing process. I'll give you an example, about a couple of months ago, I was having a conversation with a friend who told me that he wanted to write a self-help book. We had a long conversation where he asked me a lot of stuff regarding self-publishing. During that conversation I happened to ask him what was the topic he wanted to write on and how was he qualified to write on the subject. Shockingly, he thought that it doesn't matter as he only wants to inspire others. That is not how it is though. In my opinion you should have the qualification to write on a topic and have experiences related to it to share with the readers for better understanding.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
Another misconception that I found was from various self-publishing guides and stuff. I noticed a lot of those said that write in genres that are popular among the readers and they told how to find those genres. However in my opinion, how can you write in genres you aren't even interested in. I mean yes, you can write but that will never be your best. I believe a person will give his best if he is interested in that given field.
To this date I have published 3 self-help books out of which my last book - MINDSET AND PASSION reached rank #1 on Amazon India and I have never used paid promotions. So this book is my experiences and strategies that I implemented during my journey so far and want to share with all those people who faced such issues and hope they can fulfill their dream as well.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
Why did you choose this particular genre/s?
My passion for helping others and thoughts on socio-political, socio-religious issues inspired me to write fiction and non-fiction.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">The day you decided you will be a writer?
Though I was always interested in writing since my school days, but in 1990, during my graduation, I started freelancing for newspapers, which was the time when I not only realized I could write but also wrote a novel (unfortunately it’s still unpublished.)
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Who helped you with your dream? Your support?
My guide was Mr Hari Singh Nirbhay, the editor of a Hindi weekly newspaper "Shrambheri" who published my first article. My Facebook friend, Ma Jivan Shaifaly, the editor of "Palpal India" and "Making India," inspired me to continue my writing. It's my wife, Divya, who not only supported me, but also helped me a lot to get recognition as a published author.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">One important lesson you learned about self-publishing?
Don't follow any advice blindly.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
Do you think the process of writing (Typing/Handwriting) is tiring? How do you deal with it?
Not at all. I enjoy it because I have a perfect strategy for that. But, undoubtedly, editing and proofreading sucks.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
What profession you’d choose if not an author?
I wish to be a politician but I hate politics, job and business all. Everywhere everyone is compromising with ethics, and it hurts me. So, as of now I am planning to establish a good educational institute.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Do you think it’s easy/ difficult to write non-fiction?
Of course, writing a non-fiction is easier than fiction.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Have you ever met a fan/reader?
Not personally, because I haven't tried any book signing event yet.But, because I provide my social media links and email with my author bio in my books, I received many emails and messages on FB messenger appreciating my books. I would love to meet them.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Would you ever go for traditional publishing? (If you’re a self published author or vice versa)
Obviously, I would love to hook a renowned publisher. However, I have traditionally published two co-authored books.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Do you interact with other authors? Do you think it’s important?
Let's start with second part of this question. Yes, it's important to interact with other authors. As I told earlier, I am active member of many FB and GR groups, I interact with many authors, and most of them are foreigners. They are awesome, kind, helpful and cooperative. We learn from each other, do cross promotions and arrange many online events.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Your Birthday
My birthday falls four times in a year. Ha ha ha .…
Actually, it's 31st August, but on records 26th May. So, two times it falls according to English months and two times as per Hindi months. Ha ha ha …
It helps them with reviews.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Ebooks / Paperbacks/ Hardcovers- Choose any two.
Paperbacks and E-books.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Your hobbies other than writing? Do you find time for it?
Traveling. I think I spent several years in train. Ha ha ha ...
I find time for long distance journeys almost on quarterly basis.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Your thoughts on life? What helps you to deal with ups and downs of life?
Life is a competition. Like success and failures, Ups and downs are part of life. When I feel stuck, I add more time to my daily exercise, walking and meditation routine.
Practically, being a management professional, I work on root cause analysis and elimination.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Your favorite quote?
"Nothing is impossible in the world. If you know exactly what you want to do, there is always a way of doing it."
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">If you become a billionaire overnight, what would be your reaction? What will you do with the money?
Personally, I don't want to be a billionaire. Because money can not bring happiness and joy.
But, if I become, I would prefer charity.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Do you do something for social cause, for the needy?
Yes, I visit a few old-age home and orphanage occasionally. I donate for social organizations. I prefer helping others. I provide online guidance to students.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Do you use any advertisement methods to promote your book? Which worked for you?
I never hired someone to promote my books. I believe in collaborative efforts. Even, apart from free KDP promotions and Goodreads giveaways, I distribute pdf to get reviews. I provide opportunities for guest blog, interviews and book reviews, and vice-versa. It works for me because I don't write for earning.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms";">
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Your advice to newbie authors.
Establish an author brand. While outlining your first book, plan for marketing (collaboration or paid promotions whatever suits you). Be a good reader.
<span style="font-family: "trebuchet ms" , sans-serif;">Do you think a self-published author can earn as much as they want or is it an impossible dream?
Yes, but with a solid marketing plan. Marketing means prodct, price place and promotion.
Simple economics: invest and earn.
However, there are many celebrity authors who after hitting bestseller list, started earning through writing and marketing coaching. If someone has those skills, better to hire a ghostwriter to continue writing, and focus on coaching as a source of income.
<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">What does a Junior Ranger mean and what do they do?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">A Junior Ranger is a person of any age who visits our wonderful National Parks and learns something at every visit! They tell others about the beautiful places you can visit and take care of the park itself. <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">When did you first thought about becoming a junior ranger?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">My first national park was Effigy Mounds in Iowa and my Mom and Dad took me there when I was only 9 years old. Two very nice lady rangers came up to me and helped me fill out my first Jr. Ranger booklet so I could receive my badge, it was life changing! <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">Inspiration behind your love for wildlife?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">When I was a kid, I used to carry this plush animal of a fox, and I think seeing the actual animal and having a little toy to go along with it was cool. <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">What reactions do you get from family, friends, teachers, etc?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I always get the best reactions; everyone is always asking me questions and is always really proud of me!<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">Who always accompanies you to the national parks?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">Both of my parents, so mom and dad <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">Your favourite Animal/Bird?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I would say foxes or wolves, seeing them in the National Parks were always a treat!<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">Do you have pets? Which?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I don’t since I travel way too much to keep one, but maybe one day<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">Where do you plan to visit next?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">We plan on visiting Southern California over the summer of 2018; we’re still planning the specifics. <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">How did you come up with the idea of publishing your amazing experience as a book?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">When I first started visiting the parks, I always wrote down what happened at that park, what I did and who did I meet, so after a while, I had this big pile of notebooks filled with stories. I had the idea in 8<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; vertical-align: super;">th<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;"> Grade to publish my stories and encourage others!<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">Do you look at writing as a career?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I think writing more books would be awesome, but my main focus for a career would be becoming the National Park Director so I can make more parks to visit! <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">If yes, which genres would you also like to write in?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I am thinking of continuing the story and maybe publishing a second book<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">Can everyone join you as junior ranger?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">Yes! There is no age limit and it’s very easy and fun!<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">Can adults also join?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">Of course! Both of my parents are Jr. Rangers and so was my Grandma! We went to the Grand Canyon and she got her badge with me too!<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">A funny experience you had in a national park?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I’ve had a wild horse stick it’s head into my car and eat an apple out of my hand, the full story has its own chapter in my book! <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">A scary experience?<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt; font-weight: bold;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I went to Indiana Dunes National Park with two of my other friends and we hiked a trail late in the evening. We actually got lost and bats were flying all around us! It was pretty scary, but awesome because it was such a unique experience! <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">My favourite celebrity is Harry Styles from One Direction. I think he’s not afraid to express his thoughts on things through music, which encouraged me to learn to play the guitar like him! <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I wish that was all I had to deal with! I also play sports, the guitar and book signings in my area and always busy with my life. My friends are really helpful in helping me balance everything, but it’s difficult sometimes. <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I take two college courses at my high school, which is psychology and US History, and those are my favorite classes because it challenges me and I learn A LOT. <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">I think birds. We hear them every single day and it would be really weird looking at the sky and seeing nothing. <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

<span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">My favourite book is “How To Be A Bawse” by Lilly Singh, Her book is about being the best version of yourself and how to be productive in even the most stressful situations. <span style="font-family: "arial"; font-size: 12pt;">

Jarrod is ill and nor does he or anyone else understand what the problem is.

He has his "moments" and everytime experiences things that seem unreasonable.

He's also the 'Bug-Boy' for he's very fond of bugs. All kinds of bugs. He has them in his room and can't resist noticing them in the school or anywhere he goes.

His moments continue occurring often affecting his health, his grades and his social life.

Until one day when he realises that what he sees or hears is real. And someone somewhere needs his desperate help.

And a super hero is born. And like every super hero, no one believes him or his powers but he tries his best to help.
He tells his best friend and even proves it.

Well he really does swallows flies. Because that is what his Super Power is about.

A very enjoyable read for kids, especially boys who love reading about super powers. For Jarrod has a very very unique power that no can even think of.
About The Book

Jarrod can view the memories of any bug. He just has to eat it. It’s not the tastiest of superpowers and, let’s face it, fly memories aren’t all unicorns and rainbows. Eating insects also doesn’t net him many friends, but Jarrod’s ready to prove that he and his bugs are worth more than ridicule.

When he swallows a fly while biking, he’s in for a shock. The bug saw a room stacked full of sick dogs and puppies in crates. It’s a puppy mill, and Jarrod needs to save the animals. But the flight range of the common housefly is five miles. Even if the police believed him, with no evidence, they can’t help. It’s up to Jarrod.

Trained cockroaches survey neighborhood basements. A fly taped to a window makes an excellent sentry. Every ant, mosquito, caterpillar—don’t eat the fuzzy yellow ones—and beetle is his edible sidekick.

Will Jarrod save the dogs? Or is it all too much to swallow?

Special question- How did you come up with idea of “Bug-Boy”?

I’ve always been fascinated by bugs. Bugs, if you think about it, all have little superpowers of their own. But I prefer superheroes that aren’t all that powerful and it struck me as a pretty funny superpower to be able to see bug memories. So … Bug-Boy.

Tell us about your books.

That’s a big question. I’ve written over twenty different books now in a whole variety of genres. I tend to write contemporary novels with some supernatural twist. So in The Boy Who Swallows Flies, Jarrod discovers why he’s been fainting all these years—he can see bug memories--and that kicks off a mystery to solve.

One super power you’d love to have yourself?

Super-fast reading. I’m a slowish reader. As a writer, this is a problem. I love to read. I read a ton, but I need to read more. Our imagination is only useful when well fed. I guess I’m going to want a better memory as well … Can I pick two superpowers?

Are your characters based on real-life people?

Well … they’re always bits and pieces of real people, right? I had an old friend who is pretty close to Jarrod’s bestie. He’s a certifiable genius.

Your favourite bugs, if any?

Crickets with some salt and pepper. Or did you mean favorite as in which are cool … ? Ants rule the world. But specifically, I’d have to say Histeridae—Clown Beetles. They’re pretty smart. Predators prefer live prey so by feigning death it gets them out of all sorts of trouble (spoiler: this doesn’t work as well for Jarrod).

Why did you choose this particular genre/s?

I believe genres choose themselves. If you're going to write a story about a kid that eats bugs and can see their memories, then you're going to have a middle grade mystery.

The day you decided you will be a writer?

It’s a process. Really. I decided when I was about eight while reading the Dragonlance Series. That was when I knew I wanted to write. But I needed to remind myself of this when I was eighteen, twenty-five, and finally I left my job on my 30th birthday. Haven’t looked back.

What profession you’d choose if not an author?
I’d write code. Seriously, I think being able to build software of all sorts using code is the closest we can come to magic. It also allows you to innovate and be entrepreneurial.

Do you think it’s easy/ difficult to write for children?
Hard. You have to put yourself into the mind of a child, but then write like an adult. You can’t dumb anything down. You have to balance the craft elements with the crazed fun of a kid. Kids writing and humor go hand in hand and humor in writing is hard.

Would you ever go for traditional publishing? (If you’re a self published author or vice versa)

Sure! Some books make more sense to self pub, but I think traditional publishing has a lot of advantages when it comes to distribution and marketing access. I’ve done both. I tried to find a traditional publisher for this book. No luck.

Your favorite place on earth? Why?

Oh, boy, I’m blessed. I’d say it’s kayaking on a river. In the arms of my wife. (maybe I should put that one first?) Skiing an awesome trail. Diving a reef. It's a coffee shop with my laptop open.

Your thoughts on life? What helps you to deal with ups and downs of life?
Ha, wow, you go for the easy questions, huh? Life’s alternately frustrating and amazing, right? But you wouldn’t know what’s amazing without the frustration. So I try to suck it up.

Your favorite quote?
I recall Neil Gaiman talking in a video commencement speech about dandelion fluff and how you have to get your ideas, your fluff, out there, and that you never know where it’ll take seed. (that’s the opposite of paraphrasing, btw!) It’s always stuck with me.

The Girl who Said Sorry is about how a girl is easily
encouraged and even easily discouraged.

She is expected to be sorry for being herself.
But the writer believes that we shouldn't be "sorry"
for being ourselves. Because we are not hurting someone,
instead we're expressing ourselves.

Girls are motivated to be brave, smart, follow their mind , etc.
But at the same time they're expected to never be bossy and be a lady.

Everytime she says "Sorry" and finally she realises
that for being herself she shouldn't be sorry.
Thank you netgalley for the book.

About the book
Too girly or too boyish. Too thin or too fat. Too quiet, too loud. Be ambitious, but don’t hurt feelings. Be inquisitive, but don’t interrupt. Be outspoken, but don’t be bossy. Most of all, be yourself—but be a lady.

What’s a girl to do in a world filled with contradicting gender expectations, aside from saying sorry?

The way we teach politeness norms to children is often confusing, changing based on gender—and can have lasting effects. And while everyone should be courteous and accountable for their actions, apologetic language out of context can undermine confidence and perceived capability.

Within the subtle yet beautiful illustrations and powerful rhyme of "The Girl Who Said Sorry", developing girls will learn that self-expression and personal choices can be made without apology, and with confidence.

50% of profits from this book is donated to Girl Up, a United Nations Foundation campaign dedicated to empowering young girls to take action on global issues.
